Introduction

Joy Subscriptions integrates with AOV.ai Bundles Upsell to let you offer volume discounts and subscription options together on the same product page. Instead of choosing between selling in bulk or selling on subscription, your customers can do both — pick a bundle quantity and subscribe at the same frequency, all in one step.

This integration is especially useful for consumable products where customers naturally buy in bulk and reorder regularly — things like supplements, pet food, coffee, or household essentials. By combining AOV.ai's volume bundle widget with Joy's subscription engine, you increase average order value while locking in predictable recurring revenue.

Understanding how the widgets work

When both apps are active on your store, the widget displayed on a product page depends on how that product is set up:

  • Volume bundle + subscription — If a product has both a bundle offer (via AOV.ai) and a subscription plan (via Joy Subscriptions), the AOV.ai widget takes over. It displays both the bundle quantity selector and the subscription option together, giving customers a unified experience.

  • Subscription only — If a product only has a subscription plan and no bundle offer, the Joy Subscriptions widget is shown as usual.

This means you don't need to manually toggle widgets per product — the display is determined automatically based on what's configured for each product.

  • Joy Subscriptions must be installed on your Shopify store

  • AOV.ai Bundles Upsell must be installed on your Shopify store

  • At least one active subscription Plan must be set up in Joy Subscriptions

Tips & best practices

  • Start with your best-selling consumables — Products customers already buy repeatedly are the easiest to convert into bundle + subscription combos. Apply both a bundle offer and a subscription plan to these products first.

  • Match bundle quantities to delivery frequency — If your subscription delivers every month, offer a bundle size that fits a month's worth of product (e.g., 2-pack for biweekly, 4-pack for monthly). This makes the offer feel natural and reduces mid-cycle cancellations.

  • Keep subscription-only products as-is — You don't need to add a bundle offer to every product. Products with no bundle configuration will continue using the Joy Subscriptions widget automatically.

  • Test both widget states before going live — After setup, check at least one product in each state (bundle + subscription, and subscription only) to confirm the correct widget appears.

  • Use bundle discounts to incentivize larger quantities — AOV.ai's tiered bundle pricing stacks naturally with Joy's subscription discount, giving customers a strong reason to both buy more and commit long-term.
