# Image compression

> **Heads-up:** Since early March 2026, Image compression has been upgraded with a new interface and now optimizes images at the file level instead of by page type. If your store is still on the previous version, [see the legacy guide](/seo-suite-help-center/image-optimization/image-compression-legacy-version.md).

**Who can use this feature?**

* This feature is available for all users
* Free and Trial users can optimize up to 100 images. Pro and Enterprise plan users can optimize unlimited images.

#### What is Image compression? <a href="#what-is-image-compression" id="what-is-image-compression"></a>

Image compression reduces the file size of images across your store without visibly affecting their quality. Smaller images load faster, which improves Core Web Vitals, lowers bounce rate, and helps your Google Search ranking. Some best practices are: compress every product image, preview the result before applying, and re-run compression after you upload new products.

#### How does Image compression help? <a href="#how-does-image-compression-help" id="how-does-image-compression-help"></a>

Avada SEO Suite Image compression helps you:

* Compress product, collection, blog, page, and file library images in one run
* Choose a quality mode that fits your store - from Automatic to Custom
* Preview the compressed result before applying it to your whole store
* Track how much storage space and loading time you saved
* Revert every image back to its original version if needed

#### How does it work? <a href="#how-does-it-work" id="how-does-it-work"></a>

<figure><img src="/files/Z3uATJDMmZTcwT51avBa" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

1. Go to **Image optimization**, then open the **Image compression** tab
2. In **Image quality**, open the dropdown and pick a compression level. Each preset has a fixed quality value, or choose Custom to move the slider yourself (1–100%)

* **Automatic – 92%:** recommended for most stores, keeps images looking sharp with noticeable size savings
* **High – 80%:** preserves more detail, best for photography or jewelry stores
* **Medium – 70%:** balanced for general retail
* **Low – 50%:** maximum saving, for stores that prioritize speed
* **Custom:** fine-tune the exact percentage using the slider

3. Click **Preview compression** to compare the original image and the compressed version side-by-side before applying

This helps you check the visual quality and file size reduction on a real product photo from your store

4. Click **Optimize now** to start compressing your images

If there're lots of pictures in your website, it takes a moment to scan and optimize them all.

No need to stay in app & wait. You will receive an email from us when this process is finished by setting up email notification.

#### After optimization <a href="#after-optimization" id="after-optimization"></a>

When the compression process is done, you can check your images on store front. If you see any change or problem, click **Revert to original** to get back your original version.

<figure><img src="/files/D0tEMSAJNHt5MOZFdPLC" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Please note:

* There is a 20-minute cooldown between revert attempts
* Each optimization batch can only be reverted once
* Revert is available on all plans, including Free

You can check the **Report** section at the top of the page to take an overall look on the image compression - total images, optimized images, image size before and after, and how much you saved.

To take action on each image, click **Compression manager** at the top right.

#### View history <a href="#view-history" id="view-history"></a>

In Image compression, click **History** at the top right.

In history, you can check on each time of image compression: date and time, total images processed, total size saved, and the status of each batch (Completed, Scanned, or Running).

#### Compression manager <a href="#compression-manager" id="compression-manager"></a>

<figure><img src="/files/8Ku0E6eZsgqEAbCPaKrp" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

The **Compression manager** lets you review and manage every image in your store at the file level — no longer grouped by page type. Click **Compression manager** at the top right of the Image compression page to open it.

Each row shows the image thumbnail, file title, optimization status, **Size before**, **Size after**, **Size saved** (with % reduction), and **Date added**. Use the toolbar above the table to **search**, **sort**, or **reload** the list after uploading new images.

**Manage a single image**

1. Click the image title or thumbnail to view its preview and full compression details
2. Open the **⋯ (more)** menu at the end of the row and choose:

* **Compress** - optimize this single image
* **Restore** - revert this image to its original version

**Manage images in bulk**

<figure><img src="/files/qYzJ83nKafpXZqn57XMy" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

1. Use the search and sort controls to narrow down the list
2. Tick the checkboxes next to the images you want to process, or the header checkbox to select every image on the current page
3. A bulk action bar appears at the top of the table showing **"X selected"** — click **Optimize image** to compress all selected images at once, or **Revert** to restore them to originals
4. At the bottom, the total number of images is shown on the left (e.g. *Total: 53 item(s)*). Adjust **Items per page** on the right to load more rows, and use the pagination arrows to move between pages
