Edit order

Customer details that come from checkout are not always right: a missing email, a typo in the company name, a billing address that was never filled in. Edit order lets you correct that information on the order page itself, so the document prints correctly — without going back to the Shopify admin first.

Your edits stay inside Avada. They are saved on the app's side and are never written back to your Shopify order or to your Shopify customer records. What changes is the information printed on the documents this app generates for that order — invoice, packing slip, refund, quote — whether you print it, download it, or send it by email. The order in your Shopify admin is left exactly as it was.

You cannot change products, quantities, prices, discounts or shipping costs here — those stay as Shopify recorded them.

How to use

Step 1: Open the order detail page

Go to App > Orders and click the order number. The Customer, Notes and Tags cards are in the right-hand column.

Step 2: Edit contact information or an address

Click the button in the top-right corner of the Customer card and choose:

  • Edit contact information — email and phone
  • Edit shipping address
  • Edit billing address

The editor opens with the current values filled in. Change what you need and click Save. The card updates immediately.

Two things worth knowing about the address form:

  • Country/region and State are dropdowns, not text boxes. Picking the country reshapes the form to that country's address format — the United Kingdom asks for a Postcode and has no state field, Ireland says County, Japan puts the postal code above the city. Changing the country clears the state, so pick the country first.
  • Address, City, State, ZIP and Country/region are required — but only where the selected country actually uses them. Names, company and phone can be left blank.

A common case: the customer left the company name out at checkout and your accountant needs it on the invoice. Edit the billing address, save, then print.

Step 3: Change the customer on the order

Open the menu and choose Remove customer. Avada asks you to confirm — removing only detaches the customer from this order, it never deletes the customer from your store.

The card then shows a Search customers box. It lists your store's customers as soon as you click into it; type a name or an email to narrow it down, then pick the right one. The full details reappear on the card.

The customer you attach this way is attached for this order only — no new customer record is created in your Shopify admin.

Step 4: Edit notes and tags

Click the pencil icon on the Notes or Tags card.

  • Notes — free text. When empty, the card shows "No notes from customer".
  • Tags — enter several tags separated by commas. Tags that differ only in capitalisation (VIP and vip) count as the same tag, exactly as Shopify treats them.

Notes and tags are editable on every plan.

Undo everything: Reset data

Once an order has been edited, a Reset data button appears in the top bar of the order page. It discards every edit made on that order and restores the original Shopify information.

Reset applies to the whole order at once — you cannot undo a single field — and it cannot be undone, so Avada asks you to confirm first. Orders you have never edited do not show the button at all.

Plan availability

The actions in the menu — edit contact information, edit shipping address, edit billing address and remove/add customer — are part of the Ultimate plan.

On the Free and Professional plans those items are greyed out, and the menu ends with an Ultimate badge and the line "This feature is available with our Ultimate plan". Click Ultimate plan to compare plans and upgrade. Notes and tags stay editable on every plan.

Tips

  • Edit the order before you print. Documents that were already printed or emailed keep the old details — reprint after saving to get the corrected version.
  • Notes and tags appear on the PDF only when the template has those fields enabled. See Create & customize templates.
  • The email address must be a valid one — the editor refuses to save name@example or a stray space.
  • Saving without changing anything simply closes the editor; the order is not marked as edited.
  • Since edits never reach Shopify, the Shopify admin and the Avada document can legitimately show different details for the same order. Use Reset data when you want them to match again.
  • For printing, downloading and the orders list itself, see Orders management.
