Connect ChatGPT
ChatGPT reaches your store through a custom connector. You add the connector once, sign in with Shopify, and it stays available in your chats.
Signing in is the connection type that can write — plan an outline, write a draft, rewrite a post, publish or schedule it.
Custom connectors need a paid ChatGPT plan, and Developer mode turned on in ChatGPT settings. On a free ChatGPT account the connector cannot be added.
Set it up
Copy your endpoint
In the Avada AI Blog Builder app, open MCP, scroll to Setup guide and copy the MCP endpoint.
Open ChatGPT's connector page
On the same page, under AI assistants, click Connect ChatGPT. A new tab opens on ChatGPT's Connectors settings.
If nothing opens, your browser blocked the pop-up. Allow pop-ups for the Shopify admin and click Connect ChatGPT again — or go to ChatGPT → Settings → Connectors yourself.
Add the connector
Create a new connector and paste the MCP endpoint you copied. Give it a name you'll recognise, such as Avada Blog.
Sign in with Shopify
ChatGPT sends you to a sign-in page. Sign in to the Shopify store you want it to work on — this is what locks the connection to that one store.
Approve the connection
The approval screen names ChatGPT, names your store, and lists what the connection will and won't be able to do. There is nothing to tick. Click Approve.
Check it worked
Back on the MCP page, ChatGPT now shows a Connected badge. In ChatGPT, start a new chat, turn the connector on and ask "how many posts does my blog have?"
A good first job
Ask it to plan before it writes. The assistant is set up to work that way:
- "Suggest keywords for a post about winter skincare"
- "Plan an outline for that post" — it shows you the H1 and the sections; tell it what to change
- "Now write it" — it writes in the background and reports each step as it goes
- Review the draft in the app, then "publish it next Monday at 9am"
The draft is saved unpublished. Nothing reaches shoppers until you ask for it.
Reconnect
Click Reconnect on the MCP page to run through the sign-in again — useful if the connector on ChatGPT's side was recreated, or if you changed which store you're signed in to.
Disconnect
Click the delete icon next to ChatGPT on the MCP page and confirm. It loses access straight away. Remove the connector in ChatGPT too, so it stops offering a connection that no longer works.
