Review errors and retry

When a step fails, the row tells you exactly what broke and lets you try again.

Introduction

Buying a label runs three steps under the hood — fetch rates, buy, fulfill — plus a final link step that attaches the label PDF. If any step fails, the row's status flips to Review errors with a yellow badge and the failed step plus the carrier's error message appears right below it.

Understanding the error labels

Step labelWhat it means
Could not fetch ratesThe rate request was rejected. Usually caused by a bad address, missing package dimensions, or service area limits.
Label purchase failedThe rate was accepted but the buy step failed — often a wallet balance or carrier outage issue.
Fulfillment failedThe label was purchased but Shopify's fulfillment API rejected the update. Retry usually fixes it.
Label saved, link failedThe label is bought and Shopify is fulfilled, but the PDF link couldn't be saved. The label still works — retry to re-link.
Review errorA generic catch-all when the failure didn't match the steps above.

How to retry

Filter to Review errors

Filter the list to Status: Review errors so only failed orders show. See Filter, search, and sort for how.

Read the error message

Read the red error text below the Review errors badge on the row. It shows the failing step and the message returned by the carrier or Shopify.

Fix the underlying issue

Common fixes:

  • Bad address — click the destination address and edit it. See Edit shipping address.
  • Missing package dimensions — pick a different package from the Package selector.
  • Shipping account balance — top up your wallet from your shipping account dashboard.

Click Retry

Click the Retry button at the right end of the row. The app re-fetches rates and the row returns to the normal flow. If it succeeds, the badge clears and a toast confirms Error cleared — rates fetched.

Tips & best practices

  • Retry is safe — it never double-charges. The buy step only runs again if the previous one didn't succeed.
  • A Label saved, link failed error means the label exists and shipped fine. Retrying just re-attaches the PDF for printing.
  • If retry keeps failing on the same order with the same error, the upstream cause hasn't been fixed. Re-read the message before clicking again.
