Saved packages
Save the boxes you ship in once, then pick them on any order in one click.
Introduction
Every shipping rate depends on the package's dimensions and weight. Typing those in for every order is slow and error-prone. Saved packages let you store your common boxes, envelopes, and soft packages once and pick them from a dropdown on each order row. The tab also holds your Default label size for printing.
Understanding the package types
| Type | Used for |
|---|---|
| Box | Rigid boxes — most common. Uses length × width × height. |
| Envelope | Flat envelopes for documents or thin items. |
| Soft package | Poly mailers or soft bags that can flex around the contents. |
One package can be marked as the store default. The default is auto-selected on every new order row, so you can usually fetch rates without picking a package at all.
How to set the default label size
Open the Saved packages tab
Open Settings → Saved packages.
Pick a label size
Under Label format → Default label size, pick 4×6 inch (Thermal printer), 8.5×11 inch (Standard printer), or Letter. A toast confirms Label format updated the moment you select.
How to add a package
Click Add package
Click Add package in the Packages section. If the list is empty, click Add your first package.
Choose a package type
In the modal, choose a Package type — Box, Envelope, or Soft package.
Enter the package details
Enter a Package name so you can recognize it in the dropdown later, then Length, Width, Height, and Weight (empty) — the weight of the empty package itself, not the contents.
Set as default (optional)
Toggle Use as default package if this should be auto-selected on every new order row.
Save the package
Click Add package. A toast confirms Package saved and the new package appears in the list.
How to edit, set as default, or delete a package
Open the actions menu
In the Packages list, click the actions menu (•••) on the row of the package you want to change.
Pick an action
Pick Edit to change dimensions, Set as default to make it the auto-selected package, or Delete to remove it.
Confirm
Confirm the action. Toasts confirm Package updated, Default package updated, or Package deleted.
Tips & best practices
- Set your most-used box as the default. You'll fetch rates without ever opening the package selector.
- Package weight should be the empty weight of the box. Item weight comes from the Shopify product. Avada adds them together for the rate.
- Use thermal labels (4×6) if you have a Rollo, DYMO, or Zebra printer — they're faster, cheaper, and don't require cutting paper.
Overall
Saved packages turn rate fetching from a 30-second form-fill into a single click. Add your three or four most-used boxes after install and you'll rarely touch this tab again.
