API keys
Connect, swap, or remove the EasyPost API key that powers rates and labels.
Introduction
The API keys tab is the bridge between Avada Shipping Labels and EasyPost. Without a connected key, the Orders screen can't fetch rates or buy labels. With one, every action on Orders runs against your EasyPost account.
For first-time setup, follow the full walkthrough in Get started → Step 3. This page covers what you can do on this tab once you're already connected.
Understanding the connection states
| State | What you see |
|---|---|
| Connected (Test) | Green banner, key works, fetches sample rates only. No real money charged. |
| Connected (Production) | Green banner, key works, fetches real rates and charges your EasyPost wallet on buy. |
| Couldn't connect to EasyPost | Red banner, key is invalid or revoked. Re-paste from the EasyPost dashboard. |
| Not connected | No banner, only the API key input and a Connect button. |
The status card also shows the Last verified date — the most recent time the app re-checked your key against EasyPost.
How to swap to Production mode
Remove the current key
Open Settings → API keys. Click Remove key on the status card.
Paste the Production key
Paste your Production key (EZAK…) into the API key field. The help text changes to Detected: Production mode.
Click Connect
Click Connect. The green banner updates to Connected to EasyPost (Production mode) and the next label you buy charges your EasyPost wallet for real.
How to remove the key
Click Remove key
On the status card, click Remove key.
Confirm the disconnect
A toast confirms API key removed and the tab returns to the Not connected state. The Orders screen will refuse to fetch rates until you connect a key again.
How to view or hide the key
On the input field, click Show to reveal the masked characters. Click Hide to mask them again.
Tips & best practices
- Stay in Test mode while you're setting up packages or training a new team member. Switch to Production only when you're ready to ship.
- If the Couldn't connect to EasyPost banner appears out of the blue, your key was revoked in EasyPost. Generate a new one and re-connect.
- The app re-verifies the key every time you fetch rates — you'll see connection issues quickly, not days later.
Overall
This tab is short by design. Connect once during setup, swap to Production when you're ready, and only come back if something changes on the EasyPost side.
