Getting started
Install Avada Backups & Restore, run your first backup, and learn the dashboard.
Install the app
Open the Shopify App Store listing
Open the Shopify App Store listing (opens in a new tab).
Click Add app
Click Add app on the listing page.
Approve permissions
Approve the requested permissions on the Shopify install screen.
Open the app
The app opens inside your Shopify admin — you're ready to start.
Run your first backup
The first time you open the app, a short setup wizard walks you through your first backup. You can't skip it — the app needs at least one snapshot before it can protect your store.
Choose what to protect
Select the data types you want to back up. All types are selected by default — leave them as-is unless you have a reason to narrow the scope. See Backup types for the full list.
Set your schedule
Pick how often automatic backups should run (Daily or Weekly) and the hour they should start, in your store's timezone. You can change this later in Backup schedule.
Start the first backup
Click Start first backup. The app scans your entire store and captures a snapshot in the background — this takes a few minutes for most stores. A live progress bar shows each data type as it completes.
Done
When the backup finishes, you'll see a summary: items backed up, storage used, and when the next scheduled backup runs. Click Go to Dashboard to start using the app.
The dashboard
The dashboard is your home screen every time you open the app. It shows:
| Section | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Latest backup health | A health score for your most recent backup, plus a Backup now button to run a manual backup on demand |
| Last backup details | Items protected, total snapshots stored, storage used, last backup time, and when the next scheduled backup runs |
| Recent activity | Your 5 most recent backups and restores — click any row to open its detail, or View audit logs for the full history |
| Help center | Start a live chat with Avada support |
If your most recent backup failed, a red alert appears at the top with a Retry now button. If you haven't enabled a backup schedule yet, a prompt invites you to turn one on.
💡 The Backup now button is disabled when your storage is full. Free up space or contact support if you hit the limit.
