Avada ChatGPT Ads
Settings

Settings

Keep your ad account connected, send alerts to the right people, and decide how long the app keeps your event history, all from one page.

Go to Settings in the app menu. The page has four sections: Connected account, Notifications, Data retention and Consent & privacy.

Looking for which events are sent, order value or the attribution window? Those settings sit beside the pixel on Tracking.

Connected account

This is the ChatGPT Ads account your store advertises with. One API key connects one ad account. With it, the app reads your account's health, sets up your pixel and its Conversions API, sends your product feed, and creates your campaigns.

Connect your account

The card shows Not connected until you add a key. The app calls it the Ads API key. OpenAI calls it an Advertiser API key.

Create a key in Ads Manager

Click Open Ads Manager settings. In Ads Manager, open Settings and create an API key for your ad account.

Copy the key

Copy the whole key. It starts with sk-.

Paste it in the app

Paste it in Ads API key and click Connect. When OpenAI accepts the key, the app says "Connected to" and your account name.

The key is stored encrypted, and the app never shows it again.

If the key is refused, the app tells you why:

MessageWhat to do
"An Ads API key starts with sk-."You copied part of the key. Copy it again in full.
"OpenAI didn't accept this key."Check the whole key was copied and that it wasn't deleted in Ads Manager.
"This key can't read the ad account."Create a key with access to the account in Ads Manager, or use an admin's key.
"We couldn't reach OpenAI to check the key."Your key may be fine. Try again in a minute.

Admin key or not

Any API key with access to the ad account can connect. A key from an ad account admin can do a few more things:

What you want to doAny key with accessAdmin's key
Connect, read account health, send the product feed✅✅
Choose a pixel that already exists in Ads Manager✅✅
Create a new pixel from the app—✅
Send your brand icon to OpenAI from the app—✅

Without an admin's key, create the pixel in Ads Manager under Conversions, then choose it on Tracking. If a campaign change says "Your API key can read this ad account but can't change it", connect an admin's key.

What the card shows

Once connected, the card shows Connected and your account facts:

  • Ad account: the account name and its ID.
  • Website: the website on the ad account.
  • Currency: what the ad account pays in. Budgets and spend use it.
  • Time zone: the ad account's time zone. Reports count days in it.

Under Account health you see the account status, the Brand review and Account review results, and when the app last checked. Click Check again to read the account now.

Problems OpenAI reports, like No working payment method or Brand review rejected, show with Open Ads Manager. OpenAI reports account issues only once you have a campaign, so a new account shows none.

Click Open Ads Manager at the top of the card to go to your ad account.

Give OpenAI your brand icon

OpenAI's brand review needs a square brand icon before your ads can serve. When OpenAI reports it missing, the card shows Give OpenAI your brand icon.

Click Use my Shopify logo. The app sends your Shopify logo, from Settings → Brand in your Shopify admin, or your store's own icon if there is no logo. OpenAI then reviews your brand again.

⚠️

Only an admin of the ad account can change its icon. With another key, the app says so. Ask an admin, or add an icon of at least 128 × 128 pixels in Ads Manager.

Replace the API key

Replace the key when OpenAI refuses it, or when you rotated keys in Ads Manager.

Open the key field

In the Connected account card, click Replace API key.

Paste the new key

Paste a new key for the same ad account and click Replace key. It replaces the saved one as soon as OpenAI accepts it.

When OpenAI stops accepting the saved key, the card shows API key refused and OpenAI refused the saved API key. Your pixel keeps measuring in the meantime. It sends events with its own Conversions API key.

Disconnect

Click Disconnect, then Disconnect again in the dialog. Here is what happens:

  • The app forgets your API key.
  • Your pixel keeps measuring. It uses its own Conversions API key, which stays active. To stop measuring, turn the pixel off on Tracking.
  • Your product feed stops updating until you connect again.
  • The app stops checking the account for payment and review problems.
⚠️

OpenAI doesn't let apps delete a Conversions API key. You can delete it yourself in Ads Manager. Your campaigns stay in your ad account.

Notifications

Choose where alert emails go and which ones you get. Click Save in the bar at the top of the page to keep your changes.

Alert recipients

Alerts go to your store owner's email by default. Type another address, click Add, and save. Added addresses replace the store owner.

Click Send a test alert to check delivery. The test goes to the saved recipients, so save first. Test alerts are limited to a few an hour.

Which alerts are emailed

SettingWhat it coversCan you turn it off?
Critical alertsOpenAI refused your API key, your ad account has no working payment method, or OpenAI rejected your brand or account review— Always on
Warning alertsConversions API sends failing, no storefront events for 24 hours while shoppers still check out, purchases drifting from Shopify's orders, or your product feed failing or not updating✅

Turning off Warning alerts stops those emails only. The alerts still show in the app. An unfinished setup is shown in the app, never emailed.

Warn when purchases differ shows the threshold: 5%. You get a warning when the app tracks a different number of purchases than Shopify records, once there are at least 20 orders to compare.

See Alerts for every alert and how emails work.

Weekly report

Turn on Email me a weekly report for a short summary of your ads. It is off until you turn it on.

  • Sent every Monday morning, on your ad account's time zone.
  • Goes to the same addresses as your alerts.
  • Every email has a link to turn it off.

What the email contains:

  • Last week's spend, clicks and conversions from OpenAI.
  • Revenue from your Shopify orders and true ROAS, when your store and ad account use the same currency. If they don't, the email says so instead of showing a number.
  • The 3 products that earned the most from ChatGPT ads.
  • Any setup check that isn't done yet.

Anything the app couldn't read that week is marked as missing in the email, never shown as 0.

Data retention

Choose how long the app keeps the detailed record of each event it captured. Pick 30 days, 60 days or 90 days in Keep event history for (days). The default is 90 days.

A change applies to data recorded from now on. What is already stored keeps the lifetime it was recorded with. Reports and checks can only read as far back as the data kept.

Consent & privacy

There is nothing to switch here: consent is always enforced through your store's cookie banner.

  • OpenAI's pixel loads only after a shopper allows marketing cookies and hasn't opted out of the sale of their data. The server applies the same choice before it sends an event.
  • A shopper who allows only analytics cookies is counted in the app's own reports, but nothing about them is sent to OpenAI.
  • A purchase the app recovers from the Shopify order carries no cookie-banner choice. An order from the EEA, the UK or Switzerland is then sent only when the cart recorded the shopper's marketing consent. An order whose cart recorded an opt-out of the sale of data is never sent.

Language

The app is available in 14 languages. Use the language picker at the top right of any page to switch. Your choice is saved for your store.

If the choice can't be saved, the app says so, and the language lasts only until the app reloads.

FAQs

Does disconnecting stop my ads?

No. Your campaigns stay in your ad account and keep their status, so active campaigns keep spending. Pause them in Campaigns before you disconnect, or in Ads Manager afterwards.

Can I connect more than one ad account?

No. One store connects one ad account, through one API key. To switch accounts, disconnect, then connect with a key from the other account. Set up the product feed again for the new account.

Can I see my saved API key?

No. The key is stored encrypted and never shown again. If you lose track of it, create a new key in Ads Manager and click Replace API key.

Why does the weekly report say something is missing?

The app couldn't read that figure that week, for example because OpenAI didn't answer. It marks it as missing rather than showing 0.
