Google Analytics / TikTok Pixel / Facebook Pixel Does Not Work with Shopify
If your tracking pixels (Google Analytics, TikTok Pixel, or Meta/Facebook Pixel) are not firing or collecting data after installing Avada Cookie Consent, this is likely expected behavior due to consent mode.
Why This Happens
When Avada Cookie Consent is active, tracking scripts are blocked while a visitor's consent is denied. A new visitor starts out denied in regions where your banner asks for opt-in, and granted by default elsewhere. This is how consent-based compliance works:
- A visitor arrives on your store.
- The cookie consent banner is displayed.
- While consent is denied (by default in opt-in regions, or after the visitor declines), tracking pixels are blocked to comply with GDPR/CCPA requirements.
- Once consent is granted (the visitor accepts, or consent is granted by default in their region), the tracking pixels fire normally and begin collecting data.
This behavior is intentional and necessary for privacy compliance. Tracking pixels should not fire while the visitor's consent for the relevant cookie category (e.g., Marketing, Analytics) is denied.
Common Causes
- Visitor declined cookies — If a visitor clicks "Decline" or "Reject All", tracking pixels will not fire for that session.
- Consent denied by default — In regions where your banner asks for opt-in, consent starts as denied, so pixels stay blocked until the visitor accepts. Closing the banner without making a choice keeps it denied.
- Integration not enabled — Make sure the relevant integration (Google Consent Mode, Meta Pixel, TikTok Pixel) is turned on in the Avada Cookie Consent app under Integrations.
- Script loading order — Ensure the consent integration scripts are loaded before the tracking pixel scripts in your theme code.
Solutions
- Verify integration status — Go to Integrations in the app and confirm each pixel integration is turned on.
- Check consent mode signals — Use browser Developer Tools to verify that consent signals are being sent correctly after a visitor accepts cookies.
- Test in incognito mode — Open an incognito/private window, visit your store, accept all cookies, and verify that pixels fire.
- Review script order — For Google Consent Mode, ensure
avada-cookiebar-gcm-integration.jsis loaded before your GTM/GA script intheme.liquid.
If you bypass consent and force pixels to load while consent is denied, you may violate GDPR and CCPA regulations, potentially exposing your business to fines and penalties.
