Broken link manager helps you to detect 404 links and remove them by redirecting
Who can use this feature?
This feature is available for all users.
Advanced settings are available for Pro and Enterprise plan users.
What is it?
This helps you to detect all 404 error pages and redirect them to a new URL of your choice.
Why should you use it?
Improve user experience by preventing users from going to 404 links or dead ends
Help maintain SEO value by redirecting traffic from 404 links to relevant, active pages
Reduce bounce rate caused by users leaving after hitting a 404 error
How does it work?
In 404 link managers, you can set up automated redirect and custom redirect.
Automated redirect: This helps auto detect and redirect 404 pages to new URL.
Custom redirect: This helps redirect specific 404 pages to new URL.
Automated redirect
Go to "Broken link manager"
In Auto-redirect, click Edit
Temporary redirect: This helps redirect 404 pages to new URL temporarily. SEO value won't be transferred to new URL. This helps improve user experience when directing 404 link to new URL temporarily.
Click Turn on -> Select page
Permanent redirect (301): This helps redirect 404 pages to new URL permanently. SEO value will be transferred to new URL. Learn more about 301.
Select how often you want us to auto-detect and fix 404 pages: Daily and weekly
Select redirect URL You'll set up redirect URL for 404 pages which are Product pages, Collection pages, Blog pages or Others. For example, if a product page goes broken, it will be redirected to new URL as set up.
Custom Redirect
In Custom redirect, you can check all 404 links detected in your site with its status and traffic. You can set up redirect to fix each 404 link.
Click Add direct
Enter the URL that you want to redirect from
Select your target type for the Redirect
Click Add
You can edit or delete rules anytime by clicking on the Edit or Delete buttons
To select all broken links in all pages: Click checkbox to select all links on that page -> Click Select all to select all links in all pages.
Report
In report, you can check how many 404 links are resolved and not.
404 links that are redirected to new URL by "Temporary redirect" are not considered as resolved.
Export and import
Export
Click Export to export all 404 pages with its details to your devices.
Import 404 report from Google Search Console
Log in to Google search console
Go to Pages -> Not found (404)
Click Export -> Click Download CSV
In "Custom redirect", click Import -> Drop your file exported from Google Search Console
Click Upload. Select the checkbox "Override the broken link with matching CSV file" if you want to check and replace matching values.
Get notification when detected 404 pages
You can set up email notification to get email everytime we detect a 404 page on your website.
You can simply click Notifications settings in the banner to go set up notification.
