Connect an AI Assistant
You can connect an AI assistant, Claude, ChatGPT, or any MCP host, to this store's Luna Affiliate data. Once connected, you ask questions in plain language instead of clicking through the app, and the assistant can propose changes that you approve in your Shopify admin.
The connection belongs to one store. There is no API key and no client secret in this flow.
Before you start
- Be signed in to the Shopify admin for the store you are connecting.
- Your assistant must support remote MCP servers over streamable HTTP.
- Nothing is shared until you tick permissions and approve them yourself.
Step 1. Copy the server URL
In the app, open AI connections in the left menu.
The first card is Connect an AI assistant, holding one field: MCP server URL for this store, with a copy button. The URL ends in your own store handle, and it is the only thing you need from the app.
Step 2. Tell your assistant to connect
Paste this into a conversation with your assistant, replacing the Server URL line with the URL you just copied. It is written in English because the reader is the model, not you.
Connect to my Luna Affiliate MCP server so you can read my Shopify affiliate
programs, affiliates, conversions and payouts.
Server URL: <the URL you just copied>
Name it: luna-affiliate
Transport: streamable HTTP (not stdio)
Authentication: OAuth 2.1 with dynamic client registration and PKCE. There is no
API key and no client secret — you will be sent to a browser to approve access in
my Shopify admin.
Access: whatever I tick when I approve the connection. Read tools only read. Any
change you propose is drafted, shown to me in my Shopify admin, and happens only
after I approve it there — you can never change anything on your own, and you can
never release a payout at all.
Do not change any configuration on your own. Tell me exactly where to add this in
your own settings, step by step, and I will do it myself. Once it is connected,
tell me which tools it exposes.Prefer to do it by hand? Add a custom connector in your host's settings, paste the URL, choose streamable HTTP, and leave every key or secret field empty. In Claude on web and desktop that is Settings → Connectors.
Step 3. Approve access in your Shopify admin
The assistant sends you to a page in your own Shopify admin, Connect an AI assistant.
- Check the store. The first line reads An AI assistant wants access to your Luna Affiliate data on {your store}. The page does not name the assistant, because a connecting client can call itself anything. Judge it by the fact that you started this, and by the address it will send you back to.
- Name the connection, so you can tell it apart later.
- Tick the permissions you want, then select Approve.
Nothing is ticked for you. Until you tick at least one, Approve stays disabled and the page shows Tick at least one permission to approve this connection. Leaving with Cancel grants nothing.
The full list is on Permissions.
Approval links last 10 minutes. Leave one open longer and the assistant has to start over.
Step 4. Check that it really connected
- Ask the assistant which tools it can see. It should name them. What it sees depends on what you ticked.
- Reopen AI connections. The connection appears under Connected AI assistants with your name and Connected {date}. If you still see No AI assistant is connected, it did not finish.
If the tab says Couldn't confirm the connection or One more step, see Troubleshooting.
